Lionel Charles Henley - RBA, was a fine British genre painter born in London who exhibited regularly from 1862-to 93 and at the Royal Academy 1862 and 1888 Lionel Charles Henry the British artist was a regular contributor to the British Institution and at Society of British Artists Suffolk Street. In all, exhibiting 124 titles. Lionel Charles Henry, British artist also hung fine paintings at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (4 works) Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham (8 works) Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. (5 works) He first studied in Dusseldorf and exhibited in Magdebourg before returning to London where he settled and worked. Returning to Britain, he was an active exhibitor between 1862 and 1893, showing at the Royal Academy, British Institution, Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Society of British Artists, as well as at the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham and Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. In 1879 he was elected a member of the Society of British Artists, a society that elected JW its President in 1886. His paintings are held in collections, amongst other places, at the Leeds Art Gallery.
