Inez Beach - Seascape

We are currently seeking biographical information on an American woman seascape and landscape artist: Inez Beach;

Artist Attribution and Authentication Investigations and Research.

I find it fascinating when a challenge comes along with artist attribution and authentication investigation research that leaves you scratching your head. Particularly an investigation that isn't on a Titian, a John Constable, a Turner or Picasso. All well recorded and noted artists that scholars have studied and analysed for years. Frankly they tend to be easier to tackle!

One such case is the investigation into a little known and certainly not well documented or widely recognised American Woman Artist from New York State, who painted around the 1950's.

She was an interesting lady artist called Inez Beach that it would seem few know about..

Frankly, one would have thought that Inez Beach would have had reasonable Internet presence when searched, particularly when your painting talent is not at all that bad?  Like the seascape oil pictured above?

Many would be artists surely would be proud to turn out such an accomplished effort?  But could we find any information or Biography of her life?

So that's what brings me to create this page, to see if there is anybody, be it a scholar, collector, or perhaps a relative or family member who may know?

The best we could do with our American eastern marine painter Ms. Beach, was to catch a brief glimpse of her artist's world in provincial run of newspaper articles from Salem, Oregon. That was, way way back in 1948 and 1949.

Inez Beach Exhibit Closes Late Saturday

The current exhibition of oil paintings by Inez Beach at the Eltstrom Art Galleries, comes to a close on Saturday evening.
Miss Beach is a vigorous painter, one who tackles a difficult subject and comes out fairly well. Ardent Salem followers of art exhibits, those who are inclined to studious criticism of Miss Beach's work, are somewhat puzzled by various styles shown in her work.

The New York State artist visited the Oregon coast this summer and offers a complete showing of Oregon surf. A specialist in the field of marine painting. Miss Beach presents a well balanced exhibition. However, the subject matter may not appeal to some Oregonians who have had their fill of wetness during 1948, namely the weather. -MLS"—

There then followed an earlier article find, announcing the forthcoming Inez Beach exhibition:

December 18, 1948

The First Showing of Oil Paintings by INEZ BEACH, a New York artist

Miss Beach, a Qualified Marine Painter who as one of a group of eastern artists, visited Oregon Shores this summer, sends to Oregon a group of paintings of the roaring Pacific. Commencing Monday at 1 p.m.   YOU ARE INVITED.

And then another article appearing on the 9th.

Sunday Oregonian for January 9, 1949:

Catherine Jones, "Fine Exhibitions on Display . . ."

"Elfstrom Gallery in Salem has been exhibiting marine paintings by Inez Beach, New York artist who visited the Oregon coast this summer and did quite a bit of painting near Yachats. The artist's husband, Hal ? Beach, is a New York art dealer and also a restorer of old masters."

There is a question mark over the art dealer husband's christian name, as the digitised text on the first letter is obscure.

So we are clear that she must have been a member of an art club or circle of artists who worked together often in the east and who visited the state to paint. But which Art Association, club or group? There is a story that she may have lived at least for some time in Rhode Island.

Here's another News archive image of Inez Beach's painting called 'Oregon Surf'', This confirms that she exhibited 14 paintings in total at the Elfstrom Art Gallery in Salem for a month over the Christmas and New Year period of 1948.

The only other painting we could find was this, 'Silver Birches' by Inez Beach

It would seem that her husband was a successful art dealer, though we have no further information on him either:
