MONDRIAN  AUTHENTICATION

Authenticating the Art of Piet  Mondriaan

For most of us, the art of the Dutch artist Piet Mondriaan (Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan) is represented and fixed in our minds with bold, bright rectangular geometric shapes, similar to the montage of paintings above.

Mondriaan however ran the whole gamut of change in his time frame with an ever evolving style. As did so many of his peers working in a variety of mediums including executing oil paintings, watercolours, pastel and pen & ink drawings. This makes authenticating art which signed Mondriaan & believed to be authentic a little more challenging for art authentication experts internationally.

Technically Piet Mondriaan was an astounding talent who adapted his style and art by finding his own interpretations by influence of the artistic movements of the age right across the board.

It could be said, he went through each phase there was from cubism to his very own and quite unique cubism.

Unfortunately, the art of Piet Mondriaan is not without attention from the fakers, nor from the opportunists and crooked dealers who may pick up a period piece or study from an auction and make it into a Mondriaan by simply adding a signature. Moving to Paris in 1912, Piet Mondriaan begins to confuse us by dropping an 'a' from his surname & started signing his works 'Mondrian''
